Kern McFadden — Moving into a captain position after another person moved to a higher division was an honor this season. Being a first time captain solidified the idea for me that Gotham is for everyone and being in Division 11 means that we often are the entry point for a lot of new players. As a veteran player, or captain, I will always feel responsible for welcoming new members. The bonds that people make playing this sport are very real and they can look as diverse and unique as we hope our teams do on the court. I want to continue in my role as captain to make sure we honor all of the ways people take part in this organization and to further diversify the league as a whole. The bonds I made through Gotham helped me greatly during the pandemic and it is my hope to help others connect to this sport and this community in order to grow further as players and people on and off the court.
